Windsor (Ontario)

Windsor — a city on the south of Canada, Ontario province. It was founded in mid 20s of the 18th century. Its population is 307,877 people (2001). The city is located on a bank of the Detroit River. On the other bank of the river there stretches the city of Detroit, the USA. Windsor is connected with Detroit via a bridge and a tunnel.

Canadian government paid $34 million for the land plot, which is planned for construction of a new bridge to Detroit. 94 acre landplot purchased from Windsor represents less than a half of site required for the construction on Canadian side. The purpose of joined Canadian-American project of construction of a six-lane bridge and control points is improvement of traffic along the overloaded crossing and modernization of facilities.

Today, Detroit and Windsor are Сconnected by a 1.5 km long two-lane tunnel and a 2.3 km long four-lane Ambassador Bridge, which are the busiest crossing points between the USA and Canada.
